Local MSP Craig Hoy has praised the launch of the first Gretna Community Producers Market, describing it as a “vibrant celebration of local talent and creativity that strengthens the local community”.
The market, held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Gretna on Saturday, brought together a range of local producers and voluntary groups from Gretna, and the wider Dumfriesshire area. Attendees enjoyed the opportunity to purchase high-quality, locally made goods, plants and foods while supporting small businesses and community initiatives. The event also included a coffee morning and the display of a large model railway.
Mr Hoy, MSP for Dumfriesshire, attended the market and expressed strong support for the new initiative. “It was fantastic to join the first Gretna Community Producers Market at All Saints Episcopal Church today,” he said. “It was to meet the team and support a wide range of local producers and voluntary groups from Gretna, Dumfries and Langholm.”
The MSP highlighted the market’s importance in developing a community spirit in rural Scotland. “Events like this showcase the incredible creativity and quality of produce from our region,” he added. “They provide vital platforms for local makers to connect directly with customers, to boost the local economy, and celebrate what makes our community special. I congratulate the organisers from All Saints Church on a wonderful first event and look forward to seeing it grow in future months.”
Organisers aimed to create a welcoming space for residents and visitors to engage with sustainable, homegrown products and community projects, such as the recently formed Langholm Gardening Club, which ran a popular plant stall.
The market featured stalls offering food, crafts, and other locally made items, proving popular with residents who visited the church event.
