Craig Hoy MSP has selected the winning entry for his Christmas card competition, which this year took place among children involved with Tweeddale Rideability Group (part of Riding for the Disabled Association), based near Peebles in the Scottish Borders.
Lucy Philip, aged 8, secured the winning prize for her design, which will feature on the front of Craig’s card which will shortly be sent to residents across South Scotland. Logan Yeaman, also aged 8, was the runner-up, with his design appearing on the inside of the card.
The colourful and thoughtful designs were created by young Rideability riders and judged by Craig, with help from local school children from Dumfriesshire who were visiting the Scottish Parliament. All entries will be displayed in a pop-up exhibition in his office window during the festive period.
Craig Hoy MSP said: “I’m thrilled by all the wonderful designs we received from Tweeddale Rideability, and choosing only one winner was incredibly hard!
“I want to extend a huge thank you to Tweeddale RDA for being part of the process and to everyone who took the time to enter. It was a joy to meet everyone at the prize presentation, including the children and the group’s horses. I hope everyone who receives the card, including His Majesty the King, likes it as much as I do.”
A Tweeddale RDA representative said: “Tweeddale RDA were delighted you chose us for your Christmas card competition. As a small, purely volunteer run group, we were thrilled to be part of it. The riders enjoyed spending time with you when you came to one of our rides in Peebles and presented the prizes. Thank you also for the gifts you gave all the riders in Tweeddale RDA.”
Tweeddale RDA provides people in the Tweeddale area who would benefit from riding therapy, achievement and enjoyment from the sport. For more information on volunteering or donating, please see their website: www.tweeddale-rda.org.uk.
