Craig Hoy MSP recently visited The Usual Place in Dumfries to learn more about the vital work they are doing to support young people with additional support needs.
The Usual Place recognises that every young person’s journey is unique and shaped by their individual experiences, strengths and challenges. Through opportunities in their community café and wider programmes, they provide thoughtfully tailored support to help young people build confidence, develop skills, and realise their potential.
During the visit, Mr Hoy met with staff, volunteers and young people involved in the project and heard about ongoing funding challenges at the project.
Speaking after the visit, Craig Hoy MSP said: “It was inspiring to visit The Usual Place and hear directly from the young people and staff about the difference this project is making. By creating a safe, inclusive space and offering meaningful opportunities, they are helping to transform lives in the heart of Dumfries.”
Mr Hoy later met virtually with Shirley-Anne Somerville, the Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, to press the case for ongoing government support for the important work done by staff and volunteers at The Usual Place.
