CRAIG Hoy, a local Conservative MSP for South Scotland, was joined by Galashiels and District Councillor Euan Jardine at a consultation on Galashiels’ Regeneration.

The Conservative duo participated in the Tapestry Way Study which sought to assess the regeneration potential of Galashiels, with a focus on Channel Street and Douglas Bridge.

The consultation was commissioned by Energise Galashiels Trust which says that Channel Street in particular "needs to be more attractive, vibrant, and accessible, to encourage locals and visitors to spend more time in town".

As part of the survey, locals were asked what experiences and offers they would like to see in the town.

The study is funded by South of Scotland Enterprise and Scottish Borders Council and aims to highlight new opportunities for businesses in Galashiels and across the Borders.

Mr Hoy commented: “It was fantastic to see plans to revitalise Galashiels town centre as the gateway to the Scottish Borders.

“Galashiels has a lot to offer visitors and I am confident that the opening of the Great Tapestry of Scotland visitor centre and regeneration of the town centre will bring visitors into the town from right across Scotland and bring significantly benefits to local businesses.”

Galashiels and District Councillor Euan Jardine added: “Galashiels has huge potential as a centre for tourism and economic regeneration in the Scottish Borders, aided by its strong transport links to Edinburgh and the rest of the country.

“It was also great to speak to people on the day and hear from them about their ideas for the town.

“I look forward to seeing how these plans evolve in the coming months.”
