Craig Hoy MSP for South Scotland and Conservative candidate for Dumfriesshire recently attended the Dumfries show.

During his visit, Mr Hoy met with senior representatives of NFUS where he learned about the complexities of being a farmer in modern Scotland and the enormous challenges farmers face day in and day out. He also spent time speaking to local people and the excellent local trade stands, including the charity Prostate Buddies D&G.

Speaking after the event Mr Hoy said: “I am thrilled to have attended the Dumfries show this year. It was a pleasure to speak to so many people and thank you to everyone that stopped to say hello at the Conservative tent.

“It is very clear from my day that Labour’s mindless and cruel family farm tax is threatening to kill off farming in Dumfriesshire. Farmers are worried about how they will pay the massive bills that will inevitably end up heading their way when a loved one dies and tries to hand down the farm. It is a traumatic time as it is without the added pressure of a crippling IHT bill to pay. Labour must rethink this cruel policy that will destroy so many Dumfriesshire businesses.”

The Scottish Conservatives have committed to scrapping Labour's farm tax. They have also committed to multi-year ring-fenced funding for the agricultural sector, a lifeline for farmers.

Mr Hoy added: “It was nice to meet everyone in the sun. If you didn’t get the chance to come and chat to me and the team, then please do get in touch to arrange a surgery appointment. I am always keen to engage and happy to help with any issue you might have.”
