Local MSP Craig Hoy recently visited the Borders General Hospital to meet newly appointed CEO Peter Moore and learn more about the work of Allied Health professionals.
Mr Hoy was keen to meet Peter and discuss what he can do to support him in his new role, as well as learn about the challenges facing the health board. During the visit, he also met Sarah Horan, Director of Nursing, Midwifery & AHPs as well as several Allied Health professionals (AHPs).
Mr Hoy said: “I was keen to learn about the importance of preventative care and learned that it is just as important as reactive care, it was also interesting to learn about the newly introduced music therapy for acute medical care. It was great to speak with Peter and Sarah about the challenges but also the possibility of the Borders General, including how the hospital estate is refreshed over the medium term.”
Other topics of conversation included recruiting, staff retention and maintenance of hospital facilities.
After the visit, he added: “I would like to thank everyone I met during my visit for educating me and explaining the challenges currently facing the NHS. AHPs are very important to the NHS, and I will do everything I can to push the Scottish Government for proper funding and resourcing for district hospitals like the BGH.”
