South Scotland MSP and Dumfriesshire Conservative candidate Craig Hoy recently visited Dalswinton Estate with Scottish Land and Estates (SLE) to learn more about the estate’s operations and diversification options for estates.
During the visit Mr Hoy met with Peter Landale the owner of Dalswinton and Cameron Gillies, head of external affairs at SLE.
Speaking after the visit Mr Hoy said: “It was a pleasure to meet with Peter and Cameron at Dalswinton recently. It was very interesting to hear about the estate’s diversification in recent years and the challenges that come from operating an estate in Scotland.
“Rural businesses require the support and sympathy of both the Scottish and UK government, and I will always advocate for Scotland’s rural businesses in the Scottish parliament. Small and large rural businesses contribute immeasurably to our local and national economies.”
Cameron Gillies, Head of External Affairs at Scottish Land & Estates said: “With so many challenges facing Scotland’s rural economy today, it is always helpful to be able to show politicians firsthand how rural businesses are tackling these. That is why we were pleased to welcome Mr Hoy to Dalswinton where we could show and discuss some the innovative approaches rural estates are taking to put food on our plates, roofs over our heads and energy in our metres whilst creating new jobs to power the local economy."
