CRAIG HOY MSP and David Mundell MP have visited The Old School Project in Lockerbie ahead of the formal opening of its new community hub at the former Dryfesdale Public School. They were also joined on their visit by Annandale North Councillor Lynne Davis.
The Old School Project was established by local residents with the aim of securing the future of the historic 148-year-old school building after it was deemed surplus to requirements by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Thanks to the vision and determination of local volunteers, together with the support of a wide range of partners and funders, the building has now been transformed into a vibrant community asset.
Working alongside organisations including Cunninghame Housing Association, South of Scotland Enterprise, Dumfries and Galloway Council, Third Sector Dumfries and Galloway, the Holywood Trust, the Pan Am 103 Trust and many other local and national partners, The Old School Project has created a welcoming space that will support community groups, learning, wellbeing, enterprise, arts and cultural activities for local people.
During the visit, Craig Hoy and David Mundell met trustees and volunteers to hear about their efforts to save the former school and the work done to transform it into a sustainable community hub that will serve Lockerbie for generations to come.

I wish everyone involved every success with the formal opening and the exciting future that lies ahead."
David Mundell MP, himself a former pupil of Dryfesdale Public School, said:
“The Old School Project is an outstanding example of community-led regeneration. Rather than seeing this historic building lost, local people have rolled up their sleeves to create a facility that will provide lasting benefits for the whole community.
“It was great to meet those who have driven the project forward and to see the impressive progress that has been made. I congratulate everyone involved and look forward to seeing the hub become a thriving focal point for Lockerbie."
