Local MSP Craig Hoy has praised the staff and volunteers at Annan Day Centre as the organisation marks its 20th anniversary and has subsequently lodged a parliamentary motion.
Mr Hoy visited the centre with Oliver Mundell MSP to meet with staff, volunteers and members, where he saw first-hand the positive impact it has had on the local community. He highlighted the hard work of the dedicated team led by manager Emma Irving, alongside volunteers including chairman Donald Irving, for their two decades of service.
Speaking after his visit and lodging a parliamentary motion, Mr Hoy said: “I was delighted to commend Annan Day Centre on reaching this important milestone. Since the centre began with just 32 members in 2009, the team now supports more than 230 people locally. That growth is a testament to the outstanding team of staff and volunteers who have created a welcoming and vital community resource.”
The centre is looking towards long-term sustainability through Annan Day Centre and Care4You (D&G) Ltd, a new affiliated social care service, while also working on plans to develop a new Community Day Centre building.
Mr Hoy added: “It is encouraging to see the centre planning for the future with new services and facilities. I also want to recognise the vital support from organisations such as the National Lottery, the South of Scotland Social Enterprise Programme, Dumfries and Galloway Council’s CLERF Fund, the Bank of Scotland Foundation and a number of generous local sponsors. Their backing has made this local success story possible.”
Mr Hoys motion reads: “That the Parliament commends Annan Day Centre on its 20th anniversary and praises the dedicated team of staff, led by Emma Irving, and volunteers including chairman, Donald Irving, for their two decades of service to the local community; recognises that, in 2009, the day centre had 32 members, and that membership now exceeds 230, with the organisation looking towards long-term sustainability through Annan Day Centre and Care4You (D&G) Ltd, a new affiliated social care service; notes the important work being done to develop a new community day centre building, and recognises the support from organisations, including the National Lottery, the South of Scotland Social Enterprise Programme, the Dumfries and Galloway Council CLERF Fund, the Bank of Scotland Foundation and a number of generous local sponsors.”
