Local MSP Craig Hoy has welcomed Dumfries Academy to the Scottish Parliament, where pupils watched First Minister’s Questions before engaging in their own question and answer session with Mr Hoy.
Craig Hoy, who is also the Scottish Conservative candidate for Dumfriesshire, was pleased to meet with S4-6 pupils in Holyrood and answer their questions about the Scottish Parliament, parliamentary procedure and life as an MSP.
Speaking after the visit Mr Hoy said: “I was pleased to welcome young people from Dumfries Academy into the Parliament. It is always a pleasure to meet local schools in Parliament. It is everyone’s Parliament, and it is good to give young people an opportunity to come and understand how it works and how they can get more involved.”
Mr Hoy thanked the group for their questions saying: “The Dumfries Academy pupils asked insightful questions which I hope gives them first-hand insight into how parliament operates, which they can use in their exams and ongoing assessment. Getting young people involved in politics is important, and these school visits are important in inspiring and encouraging young people to engage in the political process.”
Mr Hoy is always keen to host school groups for tours and discussion in parliament. He added: “If your school group, of whatever age, wants to come to Holyrood then do get in touch and would be pleased to assist them in arranging this.”
