South Scotland MSP Craig Hoy is seeking meetings with key stakeholders in the Scottish Borders following a visit to the Glentress mountain biking trails.

The visit came a year after Craig visited in advance of last summer’s UCI Cycling World Championships 2023.

Glentress is one of the world class 7stanes mountain bike venues, featuring a number of trails for beginners and experts.

Since the championships, local businesses have expressed some concern that the legacy of the championships has not been fully achieved.

He also noted that maintenance of the trails has not been fully maintained, with several trails partly closed off due to fallen trees or other obstructions.

During his visit, Craig met with Murray Nisbet and the team at the Riders Retreat Hotel at Glentress to discover how local businesses want to work with stakeholders to drive increased visitor numbers to the Tweed Valley.

Speaking after the meeting, Craig said: “It is vital that we deliver a coordinated, community focussed approach to grow tourism and expand mountain biking locally. I am now meeting with Scottish Borders Council, and South of Scotland Enterprise and hope to meet with Forestry and Land Scotland to examine how we can drive the area forwards and capitalise on the legacy of the UCI championships.”
