CRAIG Hoy, a Conservative MSP for South Scotland, has visited Galashiels Police Station to learn more about the challenges facing the local police force.

The South Scotland MSP learned of issues related to gangs using derelict buildings to cultivate drugs as well as receiving an update from police on youth-related anti-social behaviour, speeding issues, rural theft including equipment from tractors and quad bikes, and wildlife crime.

Following the visit, Craig Hoy MSP said: “It was good to catch up with officers from Lothian & Borders Police in Galashiels, and the measures they have undertaken to prevent anti-social behaviour in the Borders.

“One important message is for people to obey local speed limits, as well as drive at the appropriate speed on country roads to avoid collisions. Be mindful to slow down around corners and bends, but not be too slow or stop in areas where it could result in a collision.

“If you are aware of any suspicious activity locally, including in derelict buildings, I would encourage you to contact Police by dialling 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
